India and the United States are nearing a bilateral trade agreement, with major issues reportedly resolved and negotiations progressing at an “incredible pace”, US Ambassador Sergio Gor said on October 15.
Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Gor expressed confidence that the two countries would conclude the deal, while leaving formal announcements to government ministers. He acknowledged that some details remain to be settled, given the complexity of aligning trade arrangements between the two economies.
The negotiations come ahead of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to India from October 19 to 22, including meetings in Mumbai and Jamnagar. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is expected to participate in discussions in Mumbai.
The proposed agreement aims to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, but unresolved questions over tariffs and market access remain important considerations. Despite the optimism, the deal has not yet been formally concluded, and its final terms are still awaited.
