The News Central

Editorial Standards & Corrections

The News Central aims to give readers news that is accurate, fair and clearly presented. These standards describe how we work and how to tell us when we get something wrong.

Accuracy

  • We report what can be verified, and we attribute information to its source.
  • We distinguish between facts, claims made by others, and analysis.
  • We take particular care with figures, names, dates and quotations.

Sources and attribution

  • We name our sources wherever possible. When information comes from another publication, news agency or official statement, we say so and link to it where we can.
  • Quotations are reproduced as given. If a quotation has been translated or shortened, we make that clear.

Fairness

  • We aim to present relevant perspectives on contested issues and to represent them fairly.
  • People and organisations who are the subject of serious allegations in our reporting should have the opportunity to respond.

News and analysis

Reporting and analysis are presented as such. Where an article sets out interpretation or argument rather than straight news, its framing makes that clear.

Images and embedded content

Images are captioned and credited where that information is available. Posts embedded from social media platforms are shown as published by their authors and remain their authors' content.

Corrections

Accuracy matters to us. If you believe we have published something inaccurate, email editor@thenewscentral.co.uk with:

  • a link to the article;
  • the specific information you believe is wrong;
  • any evidence that supports the correction.

We review every correction request. When we correct or update a published article, the article shows the date and time it was last updated.
